Muscle Tightness & Stiffness
Long-term muscle tightness and stiffness can prevent an individual from engaging in work and daily activities; also resulting in pain & suffering. Muscle pain from injury can result in long periods of missed work and accompanying problems and costs.
If you were in an accident that has caused long-term muscle tightness and stiffness, Moore·Faust Injury Law Group may be able to help you obtain the compensation you deserve.
How Does a Muscle Injury Occur?
In a muscle injury, some or all of the muscle's fibers are torn. The tearing of the muscle can also damage small blood vessels, causing pain (by irritating the nerve endings in the area) and local bleeding (which leads to bruising). The tendons attached to the muscle may also be damaged.
A severe muscle injury may occur from a sudden event, such as in an accident involving:
- Motor vehicles
- A trip or slip-and-fall
- Work duties
However, significant muscle tightness and stiffness can also be the result of long-term or simply repetitive movements, often on the job. In fact, muscle pain is a common work-related injury.
Muscle Injury Pain and Other Symptoms
Pain is just one of the symptoms of a muscle injury. When an individual experiences a serious accident (such as those listed above) and is suffering from severe muscle pain, it's possible that he or she may also have incurred broken or fractured bones, organ damage and nerve damage. Other symptoms of muscle injury include:
- Pain when the specific muscle (and/or a joint involved with the muscle) is used
- Swelling, bruising or redness as consequences of the muscle injury
- Weakness of the muscle or tendons attached to the muscle
- Inability to use the muscle(s) at all
- A "popping" sound with the injury
- Fever
Diagnosis and Treatment
The diagnosis of a muscle injury is usually accomplished with a physical exam. X-rays and other imaging modalities are normally not helpful or used for muscle injuries. However, they may be used for the bone and/or nerve injuries that often accompany muscle injuries.
